TheTin
were approached by Pan Macmillan, one of the U.K's largest publishers, when
they required a new e-commerce website.
TheTin's brief was to redevelop the Pan Macmillan website in order to fulfill the business directive of adding value to its products and services, developing new customer relationships and generating revenue through the sale of books.
Working with branding consultancy Marshall Overy, TheTin created a new online identity as well as the visual style for the navigation and main areas of the site. The development process included extensive usability and accessibility testing and comprehensive functional and technical systems specifications were produced. Fulfillment, data-source and payment processing systems were integrated with complex templates being incorporated into the Content Management System, covering all the different areas of the site delivered.
The resulting website is 'For book lovers, by book lovers' and spotlights interviews and events featuring Pan Macmillan's authors, offers readers sneak previews of forthcoming books, extracts, reviews and recommendations. It also has a dedicated area providing inspiration and support for reading groups around the country, sections for each imprint including Picador, Macmillan and Boxtree and a Writer’s Area to nurture and inspire new talent with helpful tips and articles from 'The Writer’s Handbook' updated each month.
Geoff
Duffield, sales and marketing director of Pan Macmillan explains: "In what is a
very competitive marketplace, our website will stand out as it puts the reader
at the heart of the business and gets them more actively involved with our
brands and our authors. In doing so, we'll get closer to our readers enabling
us to build relationships as well as promoting our latest titles more
effectively. With such a high volume of informative, entertaining content
updated so often readers will be encouraged to return to the site on a regular
basis."
Describing the new website, Jamie Simmonds, co-founder and managing director at TheTin comments "in both visual and navigational terms it is straightforward, uncluttered and efficient". He continues, "Fitting into Pan Macmillan’s overall business objectives, the new site will help achieve sales and marketing goals and from a practical perspective it gives the in-house marketing team complete control by enabling them to promote their products in an easy, relevant and compelling way."
